Student Loan Procedures

 

1: Complete Entrance Loan Counseling

 

•  Click on Entrance and Exit Loan Counseling from the list of menu items on the Financial Aid Home Page.

•  Click on Entrance Loan Counseling . You will be directed to the "Mapping Your Future" website where you can complete Entrance Loan Counseling. Make sure you have the complete names, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least three personal references. References must have different addresses. The Office of Financial Aid will receive email confirmation that you have completed Entrance Loan Counseling.

 

2: Complete the Master Promissory Note

 

•  To choose a Lender, if you have not already done so, click on Lender List on the Financial Aid Home Page for a selection of Lenders who provide online Master Promissory Note completion and submission.

•  Click on the appropriate icon for the Lender of your choice. You will be directed to the Lender website to begin completing your Master Promissory Note.

•  Please have the complete names, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least two personal references. References must have different addresses.

•  Once you have completed the Master Promissory Note, you will be directed to electronically sign and submit the note to the appropriate Lender of your choice.

 

3: Entering a Lender Name through SOAR

 

Students at Southern Miss may enter their Lender of choice when they accept their financial aid awards online through SOAR. Follow the path listed below to indicate the Lender of your choice.

•  Click on Self Service .

•  Click on Student Center .

•  Under Finances , click on Accept/Decline Financial Aid and choose the appropriate award year, i.e. for 2008-2009, click on aid year 2009. Accept or decline, any or all, of your financial aid award.

•  To enter your Lender of choice, click on Lender Choice , listed below your awards.

•  When the appropriate page comes up, choose Lender Choice from the drop down menu by Request Type .

•  Type in the name of the Lender of your choice in the space provided. Then click Save .

•  Entrance Loan Counseling may also be accessed from the award page.
